Exclusive unreleased music features on this 12” produced
in conjunction with the HVW8 design group who designed the cover
art.
This fall Ubiquity will release a compilation in conjunction with
HVW8 (pronounced "heavyweight") design group. The collective
made their name with paintings of icons like Fela Kuti and Afrika
Bambaata, but now want to spotlight future music icons. This 12"
features brand new exclusive tracks from hot LA band Plantlife,
up and coming German producer Radio City featuring Beanfield/Compost
vocalist Bajka, and the first track from John Arnolds since his
huge "Inside" 12" single of last year this time
featuring Detroit vocalist Paul Randolph.
Plantlife are a four-piece collective from LA
and they've quickly garnered props from Mos Def, who called them
"the new generation of funk", Slum Village and Gilles
Peterson - not a bad lot to put on your resume. While they wear
their influences on their sleeve.George Clinton, Sly Stone, Prince,
and the Ohio Players, Plantlife also add a new twist to classic
funk and soul just like our own SA-RA Creative Partners or PPP. RJD2 says, "This Plantlife record will fit perfectly
in between my Parliament and club bangers in my record collection,"
and we agree.
Radio City is a new project from Germany, and
if this first track is anything to go by we hope to be hearing
a lot more. Low end rumble, hip hop meets dub bassline and a truly
unique and instantly catchy vocal. Guest singer Bajka has appeared
on numerous outings for Compost Records, notably last year she
was on the Carl Craig remixed "Tides".
John Arnold steps up with a hot new club
jam featuring the golden tones of Paul Randolph. The two toured
together as members of Amp Fiddlers live band and are now collaborating
on Arnolds 2nd Ubiquity album. Arnold enjoyed huge success with
the "Inside" single (that featured mixes by mr.scruff
and Henrik Schwarz) from last year and his highly anticipated
second album is off to a fine start with "Rise Up" which
has already been touted as a broken summer anthem.
