JOHN
ARNOLD 12"
2
new tracks from John Arnold both featuring the awesome vocals
and keyboard work of Amp Fiddler (P-Funk All
Stars and Genuine Records) *Includes 2 Exclusive Remixes from
hot UK producers Spacek (Studio records) and
SF house main man Joshua aka Iz
Two tracks in two different styles featuring the golden vocals
of Detroits Amp Fiddler. "Get Yourself Together" is
a minimal but soulful track that builds around a vocal hook and
Amps amazing rhodes-work. Atmospherics are provided by chopped-up
vocal snippets, disjointed house rhythms and a thumping bass line
a la Theo Parrish or Pepe Braddock. Plus providing a funky uptempo
remix with top notch San Francisco style house flavor is Joshua
aka Iz (of Iz and Diz).
On the flip is "I Can Be", a percussion-heavy mid-tempo
track featuring a fuller vocal from Amp. Future funk? Celestial
Soul? Who knows . . . But Spacek deconstruct the track churning
out a leftfield soul jam that jars, jumps and bumps it's way under
Amps lyrics.
Over the past few years John Arnold has risen to public attention
along with a new wave of Detroit producers and artists. His forthcoming
"Neighborhood Science" album includes appearances from
some of those peers like keyboard maestro and vocalist Amp Fiddler,
vocalist and multi-talented musician Ayro and producer and vocalist
Malik Alston. They just happen to be from around the 'hood, and
helped shape the John Arnold sound on "Neighborhood Science,"
his debut album. Multi-layered soulful tracks retain an electronic
edge that works on the dancefloor and nods to the influence of
dons of the Detroit scene like Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin, and Derrick
May. John Arnold performed at the inaugral and this years Detroit
Electronic Music Festival, and is now signed to HiTech Soul for
bookings/mngmnt.
