| THE
SOUL BOSSA TRIO
"It's
not often that an essential new release hits the street, and for
the purposes of adding to your collection in a cost-effective manner
it is imperative to recognize a class act when it's in your face,
and to score the product while the stocks are fresh in the stores.
Such a release is this fine effort on Ubiquity offshoot label CuBop,
a compendium of the cream of the first two LP's by the straight-out-of-Tokyo
Soul Bossa Trio, with not an ounce of fat left in the mix. Extremely
dance-friendly, a crystal clear production, an on-the-money sleeve
and every track a retro groovy winner in a soulful Brazilian Latin
straight-ahead style. My only regret about this album is that it
wasn't released at midnight on December 31st--then I could have
voted it my album of the year for 1995 and 1996."
-On The One Magazine
The Soul Bossa Trio was formed by Gonzales Suzuki in 1993, after
the breakup of the Tokyo Panorama Mambo Boys, who had carved themselves
a niche in the 1980s Tokyo club scene. Piano, bass, and drums swing
hard in a Brazilian and Afro-Cuban style.
