ROBIN JONES & KING SALSA

Master percussionist of world renown, Robin Jones enjoys an envied musical pedigree not only as the leader of King Salsa and the Robin Jones Latin Jazz Sextet. He has always been a busy session musician working with major artists around the globe. While in Paris in the 60s, he played with Bud Powell and Johnny Griffin. He also performed regularly at the Blue Note with Chet Baker, played on John Barry's early music, plus worked in the studio with Elton John on his first album "Tumbleweed Connection". He also played and recorded with many other jazz greats including Al Casey, Barney Kessell, Tal Fralow, Ben Webster, Lucky Thompson, Art Farmer, Sonny Stitt, Red Rodney and Stan Getz.
   
"Denga" and "El Maja" were two records he made for the Apollo label in the 1970s and have now been re-released in Europe.
   
In the 1980s Jones worked with Al Jarreau, Matt Bianco and on pop singer Basia's first LP. He also appeared on videos with Billy Idol and Matt BIanco. He performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival with Sade and spent two years in the early 90s as the featured on-stage drummer in the highly successful musical Carmen Jones.
   
The eleven-piece band King Salsa contains many of Britain's finest young musicians who perform their blend of Afro-Cuban/Puerto Rican/Jazz at many venues and festivals in Great Britain and Europe. "Chango" contains numbers written by Chucho Valdes, founder of Irakere, in addition to numbers written by band members.
   
Robin still finds time in his hectic schedule to give tuition to budding percussionists around the UK and is in great demand as a session musician and guest appearances with many of the major artists around. A mini-revival of Jones past work is underway due to a UK labels re-mixing and re-issuing selected tracks.
