Luv N' Haight
LUV N' HAIGHT

ARTHUR VEROCAI

Closest Brazilian comparisons would be to Tim Maia and Jorge Ben. This unique recording has funk flavorings, a touch of folk, jazz style soloing, amazing 20 piece string arrangements, the blending of electronics and keyboards with organic sounds, and superb soundtrack style music.

DARONDO

Back in the day he was seen cruising around town in a white Rolls Royce (with a "Darondo" license plate). He opened-up for James Brown and lived a colorful lifestyle hanging with folks like the notorious Fillmore Slim. Often referred to as a street-wise Al Green, with a vocal sound that reinforces the comparison.
DON CUNNINGHAM

Ridiculously rare vinyl, superb musicianship, and a Playboy club are ingredients that make the Don Cunningham Quartet’s “Something For Everyone” album so tasty. Luv N’Haight is proud to preserve and re-issue one of the most collectible and highly sought-after jazz-dance records.

EDDIE HARRIS

Eddie Harris, the Chicago-born multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, and arranger is a genuine original whose accomplishments as an innovative and creative Jazz musician were far greater than the level of recognition and respect he was accorded.

EUGENE BLACKNELL

Oakland guitar ace Eugene Blacknell released multiple singles that ranged in style from raw R&B to power house funk.  His musical career stretched from the early 1960s when as a talented and sharp dressed kid, he would become the youngest musician from the Bay Area to play the Apollo in New York, to the end of the 1980s when he died too young.

GEORGE FREEMAN

"Franticdiagnosis," the notoriously difficult-to-find LP by this great guitarist gets a re-release on Luv n' Haight and reaches the wider audience it richly deserves.

BLACK RENAISSANCE

Harry Whitaker is a piano player, producer and arranger who on MLK day 1976, at the age of 26, recorded Black Renaissance “Body, Mind, and Spirit,” a holy grail amongst collectors of soul-jazz and rare groove. So rare, it’s virtually a myth to many collectors and music aficionados.

IVAN "BOOGALOO" JONES

Sweetback is the best album by (in our opinion) the greatest funky soul jazz guitarist of all-time. Boogaloo Joe recorded several other albums for Prestige, but this is the one to have.

JOHNNY LEWIS QUARTET

Featuring Seattle legend Johnny Lewis on sax, James (Moody) Thompson on organ, Joe Villa on guitar and Kenneth Drake on drums, the Johnny Lewis Quartet delivers dirty organ and clavinet solos, choppy rhythm guitar, massive percussion breakdowns and the hottest horn solos this side of Maceo Parker

THE JOHNNY FRIGO SEXTET

Frigo composed and recorded albums from the late 1960s through to the early 1970s for Giordano and his Chicago-based Orion record label. Giordano set up the label to provide music for dance classes. The music was required to be heavy on percussion and rhythm, so Frigo filled Giordano's classrooms with a mad mix of rock, jazz, Latin, and funk to move to. If only school was always that good!

LONGINEU PARSONS

A trumpeter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and educator, Parsons has perfomed in thirty countries in North, South, and Central America; Europe; the Middle East; Asia; and Africa. His Luv n' Haight album, "Spaced", is a collection of work that spans two decades and many genres.

MALONE & BARNES AND SPONTANEOUS SIMPLICITY

Johnny Malone met Allan Barnes while studying at Howard University in the 1960's. Taught by Donald Byrd, they were also classmates with Donny Hathaway, Leroy Hutson, and Angela Winbush. Barnes was already a member of the The Blackbyrds. When the two friends formed Malone Barnes and Spontaneous Simplicity (named after the tune by Sun-Ra) the collaboration yielded Freedom Serenade, an album of super spacey and spiritual jazz funk. Released in limited quantity in 1976, on their Humpin’ International label, this rare album bears the hallmarks of contemporaries like the Blackbyrds, the Mizell Brothers and DC neighbors Oneness of Ju-Ju.
MIKE JAMES KIRKLAND

Mike James Kirkland sounds like an underground Marvin Gaye. Do you like deep soul, tinged with rare-groove? Do you like rare-as-hen's-teeth vinyl? If so, MJK is for you.

PHAROAHS

"Brilliant Sun Ra styled melange of African influenced jazz and lean funk."

RAMP

PROPOSITIONS

The Propositions were influenced by many bands from the early 1970's, including Funkadelic, Earth, Wind & Fire, Sly Stone and local predecessors the Fabulous Counts. However, they were determined to create their own unique style. They achieved this by taking a dedicated instrumental direction and abandoning the vocalization that was present on their first two singles. Their final result, a tasty combination of funky drums, wah-wah guitar, and a full horn section, was certainly worth the effort.

RAMP

Ubiquity Records is delighted to be able to release two previously unreleased tracks by legendary 1970s soul act RAMP! Both produced by vibes-master Roy Ayers post-release of their 1977 classic 'Come Into Knowledge' album. These are not new recordings, these are vintage RAMP. Two tracks previously unheard but rescued recently from a demo the band recorded on cassette. Newly mastered, eq'd and now ready to rumble..

SONS & DAUGHTERS OF LITE

Transport yourself back nearly thirty years to the Bay Area. You are checking out a jazz funk collective that describes their sound as a mix of African rhythms, Latin flavors and Far Eastern textures. Sounds interesting? Then read on . . .

TOMMY STEWART

Tommy Stewart is known for his classic super funky disco productions on the Abraxas label. He created some of the scarcest and highly sought after disco records of all time - not the cheesy souless disco of the late 1970s but the raw, funk-tinged good stuff!

TURNER BROTHERS

1974. One of the last great years for funk music. Real funk music. Raw and gritty. The way it's supposed to be. Funk was the peoples music, played in BBQ joints and dive soul brother bars. It was music aimed directly at the ass. With the exception of George Clinton and a select few, funk went into hiding during the late seventies disco craze. Forward 25 years later, and enthusiasm for the funk phenomenom is stronger than ever.

WELDON IRVINE

This East coast keyboard player has gone from obscure recording artist to arranger/session musician for Mos Def. His early '70s recordings have always been perennial, collectible classics for rare-groove fiends.
