MATOS
Bobby
Matos is one of the leading lights on today's Latin jazz
scene. He has released multiple albums on CuBop; and if you want
an intro to this prolific artist, you could do worse than to start
with "Sessions". This retrospective features recordings
from the past fourteen years of this Latin legend's career. Some
tracks are previously unreleased or long out-of print.
Featuring some of the top names in Latin jazz, including Poncho
Sanchez, Victor Cegarra, Steve Baxter, Mike Turre and many others,
"Sessions" includes burning versions of Herbie Hancock's
"Chameleon," Mongo Santamaria's "Mi Guaguanco,"
Pharaoh Sanders' "The Creator Has A Master Plan" alongside
several beautiful and hard-hitting Matos originals.
Matos' "Footprints" was named Afro-Cuban record
of the year by the Boston Phoenix. And his latest recording, "Live
At MOCA," features some of the top names in Latin jazz, including
Michael Turre. Burning new tracks like "Jammin at the Crossroads
of the World", "African Queen", "Anamaria",
"Barbara Milagrosa", "Blues Mambo for Trane and Sphere"
sit alongside several Matos originals that range from the beautiful
to the hard-hitting.
"Live At MOCA" is a more straight-ahead jazz release than
his previous CDs and one which will continue to build Bobby's reputation
in the jazz world.
